20 Hour Famine (Power of 40)

On the 23-25 of May some of the Pt England students participated in the 40 hour famine. But we did 20 hour famine. We had a sleep over at school and did it all together. We did activity's like The Amazing Race, Shot the ball in, Picture-nary, Song list, Talent show, Movies and Plane flying.

It was a really fun night we had. As you know in the World vision there are teams like team green, team blue, team yellow and team red. I was in team green. It was amazing being in team green. We won the amazing race and came first and we also came second in the talent show.

20 Hour famine was an amazing experiment. We did all for the kids in Malawi. The power of 40!

Samoan Language Week!

This week is Samoan language and we celebrated it today at our school in our hall. We started of as normal (greetings), then we had national anthem but there was a twist it wasn't just the normal New Zealand anthem we also sang the Samoan National anthem.

Then came our first performance bought by the Teuila Preschool kids singing and dancing for us. One of our school student named Sereinty said a Samoan prayer then along came another school student named Christian who said a Samoan speech.

After the speeches along came the school's Samoan dance group. They performed their siva (dance) and off they went. Then the spotlight awaited for our special guest performance the Tamaki College Samoan Dance group. After they shined the end was about to come.

So before we it came to an end we firstly sang a Samoan prayer song then closed the celebration of the Samoan language week with a prayer. And that was our Samoan Language week celebration. Thanks :)

Weekly Quiz (Steven Adams)

Steven Adams is one of our New Zealand professional basket ball player. He is recently playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder of the National Basketball Association. Steven is 2.13 cm tall.

And did you know that Steven Adams has 18 siblings and half siblings plus him. One of his biggest hits in his life was losing his beloved dad
in 2006. In a 2012 interview, Adams : When I lost my dad, that was a big hit for me. I didn't have that parental guidance, and I kind of took advantage of it because I was a stupid idiot. I decided not to go to school a couple of times, go when I felt like. I always lied to my brothers and sisters. They'd ask: 'Are you going school?' I'd say 'yeah.' They eventually found out.

Explanation (Sound)

Have you ever thought about what the world would be like without sound. I think it would be boring and silent. It would be like losing something very special because sound is very special in our lives. We use sound as a way to communicate and to listen to music.

Sound is made by anything but how does your brain know it is sound. Sound is a vibration. As it’s vibrating the air molecule bounce of then hits in your ear drum and then converts and goes into your brain and then your brain notices it is sound.

What makes sound different? It makes it different by the pitch. Pitch is high and low sound. They are different volumes. You know that the pitch is high when the sound waves are small. And how you know what the low pitch is when the sound waves are big.

There is no sound in space. Because the is no air for the air molecules to make sound. So in space there is no sound cause no air for air molecule to be able to make sound.

So without sound in this world would be wired, different, boring and quiet. I think sound is a big part of our lives.

Echolocation!

Echolocation is the way that some animals like bats, whales and dolphins communicate, navigate and locate their prey.. They use a high pitched sound to tell detect what is ahead or what is coming their way. They use it as a way to see. It is a really intelligent way of communicating.

Echolocation helps you locate and navigate. It helps for animals to find their prey.

Have you ever heard about a teenage boy named Ben. Ben is a human boy who uses echolocation. Yeah! AT the age of 2 he was diagnosed with blindness.

Immersion Assembly!

This term Our topic is ( I like to move it  move it ). As coming back to school from two weeks of holiday I was surprised what my eyes saw. In our school hall I saw balloons everywhere. It looked like a party. All different colours of the balloons lined up on the sides.

Sitting down on our senior seats I was filled with curiosity. Curios about what was going to happen and what are we going to learn from the balloons. As we all were seated Mr Burt said his normal intro " Tena kotou Tamariki Ma" (Hello Kids), and we reply with "Tena Koe Mr Burt."

The first team who performed for us to show us what their topic was Team One. Mr Burt called them up and of they started. They showed us clip about they topic for this term and their topic was learning about how the machines at the zoo help keep the animals safe and healthy and how those machines help us in our homes.

Then came team two and they were learning about planes. All the teachers were dressed like planes, pilot and a fairy. Then along came team 3 and their topic was about light and colour. It was really something new.

When I grow Up!

When I grow up I would like to be a netball player and a rugby player or a flight attendance or a dancer the one who doesn't makes up dances but follows them.

So Netball. Playing netball gives me the joy and fun to play it over and over again. When I play I don't want to go on sub because I like want my time to last for long.

Now Rugby. And for rugby I gives me the strength and the thought to become more stronger not stronger like a body builder but stronger in my mind and mentally.

And Flight Attendance. I would like to be a flight attendance because I love travelling and also love meeting different people with different backgrounds and different places. One place I would love to go to is either Hawaii or Fiji.

Now last and not least a dancer.  What I love about dancing is that you get to embrace the talent and passion you have for dancing. I am not of those dancers who like to make up dances but I like to follow them. When I dance I feel happy and joyful.
